Service Optimization
Service optimization is accomplished through right-sizing the container size and frequency of service and by maximizing recycling. In some cases, there may also be opportunities to reduce disposal volumes or reuse materials that would otherwise be disposed of. Waste Management has extensive experience in all aspects of service optimization.
Service optimization can be achieved through site surveys conducted by the local Waste Management representatives or through Waste Management's unique methodology for right-sizing. In many industries, Waste Management can predict the correct service for each business location and can update this analysis on a regular basis. Right-sizing is based on predictive indicators specific to the industry, such as sales volumes, number of employees, number of orders or other relevant criteria. In this way, businesses are able to ensure that they are not overpaying for excessive trash bin capacity. Service optimization also prevents costly additional pickups that may occur when trash service is not adequate to handle regular waste volumes.
Recycling
Besides being good for the environment, most recycling programs also result in cost savings for our customers. The National Accounts Department's dedicated recycling specialists are available to consult with customers. A customized National Accounts recycling program can include:
Rebates for high-volume commodities- Monthly reporting of recycling volumes and rebates by location
- Local training on recycling practices and efficiencies
- Specialized recycling programs for high volumes of unique materials such as computers and electronic equipment, stretch film, plastic hangers, pallets and other materials
Reduced Extra Pickup and Compactor Haul Charges
Extra pickups and compactor haul costs are minimized through the service optimization process and by on-going management exception reporting to identify problem locations.
Elimination of Middleman Costs
Broker and middleman fees typically account for 10-20% of the total cost of a nationally managed program. Even if some of these fees are incorporated into monthly service charges, the cost itself still exists. Waste Management typically can provide direct service for 80% of a customer's locations, and no management fees are added for those locations. Third party management of the locations that Waste Management cannot directly service is available for a low fee. Centralized service and consolidated invoicing can be provided for all third party locations, as well as those locations serviced by Waste Management.
